Day 3 Saturday 24 July (187 - 287 miles)

Cardiff to Worcester

The Peloton will be riding through Nigel Mansell's home county  for a varied day of visits and activities.

The County of Worcestershire will be welcoming the Peleton with an array of activities to make their journey through the county a memorable time

  • Upton upon Severn - Home Coming - 13.45
The town of Upton upon Severn is planning a big surprise for Nigel with the Mayor and local towns people coming out to welcome the Peloton as they ride through.

  • Welland Steam Fair - 14:30
The Nigel Mansell Cycle Challenge has been invited to attend the Welland Steam Fair, to talk about UK Youth and the ‘Positive About Youth’ campaign. By this stage the team will be 200 miles into their 1200 miles challenge and will be looking forward to changing their two wheels for some steam-powered action.

  • Diglis Bridge opening - 16:00

The arrival of Magnus Backstedt (known as Big Maggy) and Nigel to this location has created a lot of excitement with the local cycling communities and should present some fantastic photographic opportunities as local cyclists and the Peloton meet  together on the bridge.

  • University of Worcester, Motion and Sports Centre - 16:20

The Motion and Performance Centre (MPC) is the research and consultancy arm of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, providing support for teaching, research, consultancy and other areas within the University. The MPC is a research centre delivering breakthroughs in 3D motion analysis.

The arrival of both a Formula One World Champion and a Tour de France legend has been greeted with much excitement within the college. The addition of the extremely fit and athletic personalities of Leo and Greg Mansell to the research centre will add to this event.

The Centre will also be inviting the press and public to try out some of their activities for themselves, which will give a greater understanding of how vital their work is in sports development.
