In
Scotland, Bike Club is delivered by a partnership of CTC, Youth Scotland
and ContinYou and is funded by the Asda Foundation.
Bike Club
is a new initiative that aims to use cycling as a means to engage with
young children and young people, challenging them to try something new.
The
official launch
Bike Club, was officially
launched in Glasgow on the 30th June 2010.
Speaking
at the prestigious launch event in Glasgow last Wednesday, Chief Medical
Officer Dr Harry Burns identified cycling as an ideal way for young people
to develop healthy lifestyles, saying; "Obesity is going to be the
next big challenge and we are going to see a big rise. But aerobic and
anaerobic exercise can prevent this and premature death, so we have got to
get that message out into the community."
Bike Club will be
supporting this message by inspiring young people to become participants
and leaders of fun, creative and inclusive cycling-related activities as a
way of improving physical activity levels, healthy learning and social
inclusion for young people.
